As reported this week in Civil Society News ‘One-third of
visits to JustGiving now come from mobile devices’. JustGiving received almost
two million visits to its website from mobiles last month, representing almost
four-fold growth over the past year. Elizabeth Kessick, head of Insight at
Just Giving states, “This increase can be explained by the growth in the number
of smartphone users in the UK.”
Paul de Gregorio, head of mobile at Open Fundraising, added
that charities need to “engage with text” in order to reach the next generation
of donors, even if it means they don’t find out much about those donors.
An interesting report supports the use of SMS Marketing or ‘Narrowcasting’.
Narrowcasting marks an emerging trend by which organisations
are sharing content with smaller, more selective audiences. In contrast to
broadcasting, narrowcasting is about tailoring information to better compel the
recipients. It’s a competitive alternative, as demonstrated by this
infographic from Morgreet. While broadcasting gets a brand’s message out to a
massive group of people, when it comes to who is actually reading and engaging
with the content, the numbers are staggeringly low.
Research shows that 84 percent of Facebook news feed stories
aren’t viewed, 71 percent of tweets get ignored and 88% of emails go unopened. Meanwhile
98 percent of text messages are opened and therefore organisations marketing
through SMS Text Messaging have a far truer reach.
How are you communicating with your supporters? Is it time
to re-think your marketing approach and engage with customers through their
mobile devices – the one item nobody leaves home without!
Mobile devices have become every bit as feature-packed as
most home computers and the advantages they have over the standard computer are
undeniable. Equally, the advantages that
mobile marketing has over broadcast marketing are significant, your competition
is lower and your response rate is so much higher.
So when you are starting your next marketing campaign or
just sending out a message to say an event is now open, which marketing channel
are you going to use?
SMS Marketing messages are short in nature, so you don’t
have to write as much to get your point across. It is so powerful that it can
make it seem like everything else is hard work by comparison! You can literally
run an entire SMS text marketing campaign in a matter of minutes or hours,
rather than days or weeks. But most of all, it is more responsive!
The text messaging facility within AdvantageNFP Fundraiser is a simple,
yet powerful, way to communicate quickly and cheaply with your supporters. Text
costs start as low as 4p and the great news is that all of the functionality
you need to send personalised texts is already built into AdvantageNFP
Fundraiser. We supply the text credits and you just need an Internet connection. Each text is personalised and logged as an
outgoing communication.
